Ane Marie Thomsen is the second of eleven children born to Hans Adolph Thomsen and Karen Caroline Sørensdatter, both from Denmark.

The family immigrated to America, sailing on the ship “B.S. Kimble.” Upon arriving in America, they traveled to Nebraska to join the John F. Sanders Company. With other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Company left Nebraska on July 6, 1863.

Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, premature birth, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. Two weeks into the journey, 4-year-old Ane Marie passed away of undocumented causes. She is buried near Sandy Bluff in Nebraska.
