Ane Christine Oleson is the fifth of seven children born to Johannes Oleson born in Sweden and Johanne Christiansen, both from Denmark. Ane’s parents were married in Denmark in 1857.

When Ane was nine years old, the immigrated to America, sailing on the ship “Emerald Isle” in 1868. With a desire to journey to the Great Salt Lake Valley with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the family joined the John G. Holman Company. Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. Just a few weeks before they entered into the Salt Lake Valley, Ane passed away of unknown causes. She is buried somewhere on the trail in North Platte, Nebraska.
