Anders Anderson is the son of Niels Andersen and Mette Hansdatter from Denmark. Anders also had a sister, Inger, who died while the family lived in Denmark. After immigrating to America with other Danish members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they joined the James Willie Handcart Company to journey west to the Great Salt Lake Valley. The company left late in the season, and were subject to early snowstorms and severe lack of food.
Anders father, Niels, passed away in Wyoming on October 24 and is buried with others somewhere in Wyoming. Nine-year-old Anders, also passed away sometime along the trek. The exact date and place that he passed away is unknown. Anders mother, Mette, went on to Utah alone, supported by her friends from Denmark.
