Amelia Jane Ninde is the daughter of John Albert Ninde from Germany. Records suggest that “it is possible that her mother was Rose Ann Kelpin.
John joined the Allen Weeks Company to journey west with members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints bound for the Salt Lake Valley. Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers.
Journal entries indicate that Amelia Jane was born and lived for about an hour. It is thought that she is buried perhaps in Iowa, along the Mormon Trail.
