Alice Rosemary Kemp is the tenth of 11 children born to William Button Kemp and Elizabeth Bilham. The Kemp family immigrated to America sailing on the ship “SS William Tapscott.” After arriving in America, the family traveled to Nebraska and joined the Horton David Haight Company to travel with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Salt Lake Valley. The Company left August 10, 1861.
Exhaustive travel conditions, disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and extreme weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. When the company was just near the Weber River, Utah (west of Wyoming), 1-year-old Alice passed away of undocumented causes. She is buried along the Mormon Trail near Echo Canyon, in Summit County, Utah Territory.
