Alice Howarth is the daughter of Benjamin Howarth and Ellen Gregory, both from England. The Howarth family immigrated to America by sailing on the ship “SS Colorado.” After arriving, they traveled by train to Nebraska and joined the Daniel D. McArthur Company. Along with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the company left Florence, Nebraska on August 14, 1868 bound for the Utah Territory.

Disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. When the company was in Wyoming, 3-year-old Alice passed away of unspecified causes. She is buried along the Mormon Trail in Wyoming.
