Alia Kramer is the first child born to Herman Heinrich Kramer and Pernilla Phearson, both of Denmark. The Kramer family immigrated to America and traveled to Nebraska where they joined the John G. Holman Company. The Company, composed of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, began their travel to the Great Salt Lake Valley on September 1, 1868.

Two weeks into the journey, children were exposed to various illnesses. Eleven-year-old Alia was among them and passed away. (Her specific illness is unknown.) She is buried by the wayside of the Mormon Trail.
