Alfred Hezekiah Wade is the son of William Wade and Sarah Byford, both from England. The Wade family immigrated from England. After arriving in America they traveled by train to Wyoming, Nebraska and joined the Edward T. Mumford Company. The Company, composed of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, departed on September 1, 1868.

While near Green River, Wyoming, 16-year-old Alfred succumbed to mountain fever and was buried in Wyoming along the Mormon Trail.

Alfred's sister wrote in her diary: “Just before we reached Green River, we were about two days travel east of there, my brother Alfred contracted mountain fever and died. We had to bury him out on the plains just beside the road without a coffin or anything.”
