Alberthine's parents are Frederick Nielsen and Ane Margrethe Jorgensdatter, both from Denmark.

In coming over the ocean on the ship Athena in 1862, little Alberthine came down with the measles.According to the history on her mother Ane:

“Their four little girls were with them, but the youngest, Albertine, was not well. There were many children on board the ship who had the measles; Albertine became very ill with measles and died. She had to be buried at sea.”

Little 2 year old Alberthine was buried at sea.

The family then went on to America and joined the Joseph Horne Company to the Salt Lake Valley.
