Adolphus Ethelbert Orson Blackley is the son of George Blackley and Elizabeth White from England. His mother, Elizabeth, and some of the children immigrated to America and traveled to Nebraska to join the William Henry Chipman Company. The Company departed Nebraska on July 12, 1866. Father, George, and some of the children made the trip one year later.

Disease, injury, lack of food and medicine, prematurity, and weather were some of the greatest threats to pioneers. Adolphus, 9-months-old, passed away of unknown causes. His mother’s history indicated that Adolphus passed away on the plains. Yet, another record shows he died in Salt Lake City shortly after arriving on September 15.
