Abigail’s parents were David Burlock Lamoreaux and Mary Ann Gribble, both born in Canada. They met and were married in Ohio in 1838. Abigail was their third of nine children.

Am members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and with a desire to journey to the Great Salt Lake Valley, the Lamoreaux Family joined the William Snow/Joseph Young Company. However, because there were so many in the company, they branched off into the Shadrach Roundy Company of 1850 to trek to the Salt Lake Valley.

Along the way, disease broke out in companies due to stagnant spring water between the Missouri and the Platte River. Abigail, age 8, and other Saints in the company suffered from cholera (a bacterial disease caused from contaminated water). She passed away and is buried near the Platte River.

According to the history on her mother, Mary Ann, she said: “Abigail is buried in a roadside grave.” Captain Shadrach Roundy's company report in part says: “Abigail A., daughter of D.B. and Mary Lamoreaux, died enroute on June 26, 1850, of cholera at eight years of age.”
